EVANS, David Jenkin

"MERTHYR QMS KILLED WITH SOUTH WALES BORDERERS AT BOESINGHE"

Quartermaster Sergeant David Jenkin Evans, 44548, 11th Battalion South Wales Borderers

Died of Wounds from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, on 5th June 1917, age 25

Buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium

Prior to joining the colours, David worked at the Dowlais offices of Guest, Keen & Nettlefolds.

The war diary for the 11th Battalion is very quiet in May & June 1917, which makes it difficult to pinpoint when David was shot. They were subject to heavy German artillery in mid April, but as there is no mention to any trench raids, I can assume he was wounded prior to April (although there is no menton of this).

Buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium

His brother Pte Isaac Evans, Welsh Regiment, was also dangerously wounded whilst on active service.

Brother of Jane Williams, 3 Church Street, Dowlais.
